Neuromodulators — the category that includes Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, Xeomin, and Jeuveau — are the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures in the United States. And still, there is a lot of confusion about how they work, what makes the brands different, and what results actually look like.

How they work

All neuromodulators contain botulinum toxin type A. They work by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that tell certain muscles to contract. Without that contraction, the overlying skin cannot crease. Expression lines soften, and new lines stop forming.

Think of them as gentle muscle relaxers for your expression lines — not a paralysis, and not permanent.

What makes the brands different

Dysport — Our most frequently used neuromodulator. It has a slightly wider diffusion pattern, which gives it a soft, natural look. It tends to kick in faster than Botox.

Botox — The original and still widely used. Precise, predictable, and well-studied. Works particularly well for smaller, targeted areas.

Daxxify — One of the newer options. It uses a novel peptide formulation and tends to last longer than other brands — up to six months for some patients.

Xeomin — A purer form of the toxin with no accessory proteins. A good option for clients who may have developed tolerance to other brands.

Jeuveau — Developed specifically for aesthetic use. Results and duration are similar to Botox.

Common treatment areas

  • Forehead horizontal lines
  • Frown lines between the brows (the “elevens”)
  • Crow’s feet at the outer eye corners
  • Lip lines and lip flip
  • Brow lift
  • Neck bands (platysmal bands)
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

What to expect

The appointment itself is fast — usually 10 to 15 minutes once you are in the chair. Most clients feel minimal discomfort. Results begin to appear within three to five days, with full effect at two weeks.

Duration varies by product and by client, but most neuromodulators last three to four months. Regular treatments help maintain results and may extend the interval between appointments over time.

The frozen face myth

This is the persistent misconception we work hardest to correct. Skilled providers do not over-inject. The goal is to reduce the movement that causes lines while preserving the expressions that make you recognizable as yourself.

The treatment should make you look like a more rested, refreshed version of yourself — not someone else.

Preventative treatment is increasingly common among younger clients in their mid-to-late twenties. Softening dynamic movement before lines become permanent is a legitimate and evidence-supported approach.

If you are new to neuromodulators or have had a result in the past that did not feel like you, we would welcome the conversation. A consultation is always the right first step.
