People with sun damage, uneven tone, melasma, acne, or early signs of aging. We start new clients with a mild peel to see how their skin tolerates it.
The science, plainly.
Acids and retinol loosen the bonds between dead skin cells so they shed evenly. Deeper peels also prompt new cell turnover and collagen. Paired with the right home care, peels are among the most effective treatments for pigmentation.
Before
No recent sun, not pregnant or nursing. We may prep your skin with home products for 2–4 weeks.
During
Warmth or tingling for a few minutes as each layer is applied.
After
Light flaking for 2–5 days with medium peels. Don’t pick. Daily SPF is essential.

Questions we hear often
Can I get a peel on my first visit?
Our Glow + Go peel can be done at your first visit if you have had no recent sun, are not pregnant or nursing, and are in good health.
How long do chemical peel results last?
Results vary depending on the peel strength and your skin concern. After a mild peel, skin typically looks brighter and more even for two to four weeks. With a series of treatments and consistent home care, improvements in tone, texture, and pigmentation can last much longer. We'll help you build a plan that maintains your results over time.
Is a chemical peel painful?
Most people experience warmth, tingling, or a mild stinging sensation during the treatment, which fades quickly once the peel is neutralized. Mild peels are very well tolerated. Medium-depth peels may feel more intense for a few minutes but are still manageable. We walk you through what to expect before we start so there are no surprises.
What should I avoid before and after a chemical peel?
Before your peel, avoid recent sun exposure, tanning, and pause retinoids or exfoliating products for at least five to seven days. After treatment, avoid direct sun, sweating, and picking at any flaking skin. Daily SPF is essential. We'll give you a complete aftercare guide at your appointment.
Can I get a chemical peel if I have darker skin?
Yes, with the right peel selection. Certain acids and strengths are better suited for deeper skin tones to avoid post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. We take your skin tone into account when choosing your peel and often recommend a gentle prep phase at home first. We treat a wide range of skin tones here on Oʻahu and will always choose the safest option for your skin.
How many chemical peels will I need?
It depends on your skin concern. For maintenance and general glow, a single peel every four to six weeks can work well. For more significant concerns like melasma, acne scarring, or sun damage, a series of three to six peels spaced four weeks apart typically gives the most noticeable improvement. We'll set realistic expectations at your first visit.
Can I combine a chemical peel with other treatments?
Often yes. Peels pair well with DiamondGlow, dermaplaning, and professional skincare. We sometimes recommend doing a peel series before starting microneedling to prep the skin. We'll let you know what combinations make sense based on your goals and skin at the time of your visit.
What is the difference between the SkinMedica Illuminize Peel and Vitalize Peel?
The SkinMedica Illuminize Peel is designed for mild skin imperfections and helps provide vibrant, radiant-looking skin with minimal downtime. It's a great starting point if you're new to chemical peels or want a refresher with little to no peeling. The SkinMedica Vitalize Peel is appropriate for mild to moderate skin imperfections and goes a step further, diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and addressing skin tone unevenness that can be caused by acne scarring or other pigmentary changes. Both peels are medical-grade treatments administered by a licensed professional. We'll recommend the right one based on your skin at the time of your visit.
Are peels safe for melasma?
Carefully chosen peels can help. We start mild and pair them with home care, because aggressive treatment can make melasma worse.
Will my face visibly peel after a chemical peel?
Not necessarily, and that's completely normal. Visible peeling is a side effect of the treatment, not a measure of how well it worked. Some people peel noticeably after a medium-depth peel, others experience only subtle flaking, and some see no visible peeling at all. Every person responds differently, and even the same person can have a different experience from one treatment to the next. A great result doesn't require visible peeling, the renewal is happening at a cellular level regardless.
