The science, plainly.
SkinPen was the first microneedling device cleared by the FDA. It makes hundreds of tiny punctures per second, which prompts the skin through inflammation, rebuilding, and remodeling. The result is new tissue without scar formation.

Questions we hear often
Is microneedling painful?
Most people find SkinPen microneedling very tolerable. We apply a topical numbing cream 45 to 60 minutes before your treatment, so the skin is well numbed before we begin. You may feel some pressure or a mild scratching sensation, and areas over bony spots like the forehead can feel more noticeable. By the end of the session most people are surprised by how comfortable it was.
How long do microneedling results last?
Because microneedling works by stimulating your own collagen production, results build gradually and can last a year or longer with proper maintenance. Most people see continued improvement for three to six months after completing a series. To maintain results, we typically recommend one to two treatments per year after your initial series is complete.
What is the downtime after microneedling?
Most people look red or flushed immediately after treatment, similar to a mild sunburn. This typically fades within 24 to 48 hours. Some people experience minor swelling or dry, tight-feeling skin for a few days. You can return to most normal activities the next day. We recommend avoiding intense exercise, direct sun, and active skincare ingredients for at least 48 hours after treatment.
Can microneedling help with acne scars?
Yes, and it's one of the most effective treatments available for acne scarring. SkinPen microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin that trigger the body's natural healing response, producing new collagen and elastin. Over a series of treatments, this can significantly soften the appearance of pitted, rolling, and boxcar acne scars. Results are gradual and build over several months.
Is SkinPen microneedling safe for all skin tones?
Yes. One of the key advantages of SkinPen microneedling over laser or heat-based treatments is that it does not target pigment or use thermal energy, making it safe for all skin tones including deeper complexions. This is one of the reasons we chose SkinPen as our microneedling device, particularly given the diversity of skin tones we see here on Oʻahu.
How is SkinPen different from other microneedling devices?
SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device on the market and is backed by clinical studies demonstrating its safety and effectiveness. It uses a sterile, single-use needle cartridge for every treatment, which minimizes infection risk and ensures consistent results. Not all microneedling devices are FDA-cleared or held to the same clinical standard, which is why the device matters.
Can microneedling be done on the neck?
Yes, and it's one of our more popular treatment areas. The neck is often overlooked in skincare but shows signs of aging early, including fine lines, crepey texture, and laxity. SkinPen microneedling on the neck can help improve skin texture and stimulate collagen in this delicate area. We offer face and neck together as a combined treatment.
What should I avoid after microneedling?
For the first 48 hours, avoid direct sun exposure, sweating, swimming, and applying active skincare ingredients like retinoids, vitamin C, acids, or anything with fragrance. Keep your skin clean and hydrated. After 48 hours you can gradually reintroduce your normal routine. SPF is essential during your recovery and throughout your treatment series.
Does microneedling hurt?
Numbing cream makes it comfortable for most people. Bony areas like the forehead can feel more noticeable.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people see visible change after three sessions. Deeper acne scars may need more.
Can I microneedle at home?
Home rollers do not reach the depth needed for collagen change and carry infection risk. We recommend professional treatment only.
