We get asked this comparison a lot. Both DiamondGlow and HydraFacial are popular, both promise glowing skin with minimal downtime, and on the surface they look similar. But the differences matter — and they are why we chose DiamondGlow.

How exfoliation works

HydraFacial uses chemical exfoliants — acids and enzymes — to loosen dead skin cells before they are vacuumed away. This can be effective, but chemical exfoliants can also cause sensitivity and are not appropriate for all skin types.

DiamondGlow uses mechanical exfoliation with a diamond-tip wand. There are no acids involved in the exfoliation step. This gives us more control and makes the treatment safe for a wider range of clients, including those with reactive or sensitive skin.

Treatment area coverage

HydraFacial is designed for the face and stops there — it avoids the delicate eye and lip areas.

DiamondGlow can treat the face, lips, upper eyebrow area, and below the lower lash line. It can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands. We use it wherever the skin needs attention.

Product quality

DiamondGlow was developed in partnership with SkinMedica, which means the serums infused during treatment are medical-grade. High concentrations of active ingredients are delivered directly into freshly exfoliated skin at the moment of maximum absorption.

Real results vs. cosmetic refresh

HydraFacial is often positioned as a cosmetic treatment — a pre-event glow-up. DiamondGlow is a clinically proven dermabrasion treatment that actually improves skin health over time. That is a meaningful difference.

A facial that only makes your skin look better temporarily is not the same as one that makes your skin function better.

Who we recommend it for

DiamondGlow works well as a standalone treatment and as part of a longer skin health plan. It pairs especially well with microneedling or chemical peels on an alternating schedule.

If you have been thinking about either treatment, come in for a consultation. We will assess your skin and tell you which approach makes the most sense for your goals.
